The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched its Maritime Single Window (MSW) system, the Fasah Port Community System platform, in accordance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Facilitation Committee (FAL) amendment regarding the MSW as outlined in resolution FAL.14(46). This milestone signifies Saudi Arabia position as the 23rd country globally to adopt and implement this technology. The Maritime Single Window in the Kingdom will enable vessels to streamline the electronic exchange during port arrivals and departures. Saudi Arabia shared this accomplishment during the 48th meeting of the Facilitation Committee held at the IMO in London from April 8th to 12th.

As vessels arrive into port, the Maritime Single Windows will allow for the exchange of data that is required for the port which is then instantly distributed amongst key entities ashore. This can include information about the cargo, passengers, crew, dangerous goods and more. This data exchange is vital to ensuring safety, security, and environmental protection. The digitization of information improves the quality of the information and reduces the chances of errors.

The Fasah Port Community System platform will aid data harmonization, crew, and cargo safety, help to combat illicit trade, and build fully operational global supply chains by driving the information through one portal.  The new system of operating through one data set will make the system universal and enable simpler more efficient maritime trade. All ports in Saudi Arabia will implement the system embracing Vision 2030’s aims to enhance logistical performance in the Kingdom's ports.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is continuing its commitments to develop maritime technology to streamline the industry and build itself into a global logistics hub. This achievement of becoming the 23rd IMO Member State to implement the Maritime Single Windows programme showcases the Kingdom’s leadership and innovation in the maritime sector.
