Mawani and IMO Hold Workshops in Jeddah and Dammam


MAWANI, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Port Authority, partnered with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to host two regional workshops on 8th of June 2023. These workshops in Jeddah and Dammam exemplify the Kingdom’s leadership in providing expertise and upskill and expand on skills for marine inspectors of Port State Control (PSC).

The workshops were organized as part of the technical cooperation between the national maritime regulator and the UN agency that seeks to maintain navigation and marine safety and safeguard a sustainable and secure flow of trade across Saudi port. The workshop was led by IMO experts and technical advisors.


The workshops facilitated capacity-building, major amendments to international conventions, and codes for safety and pollution prevention, as well as mechanisms to implement the global body’s guidelines and regulations.


The main ambitions of the workshop included:

- To maintain the safety of navigation and the marine environment

- Ensure safe and sustainable trade flow through Saudi ports

- Support ship control qualification and training

- Improve cadres’ skill


The Saudi Ports Authority's partnership with the IMO demonstrates Saudi Arabia's continued commitment to maintain the highest levels of safety and security within its maritime installations which fall in line with Vision 2030. This is connected to Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to enhance its position in global logistics.


The outcomes of these workshops are essential for the continued prosperity of the country to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration among stakeholders and promote the sustainable growth of its port operations and align it with international standards.
