‘Saudi Arabia’s MAWANI opens Largest Logistics Investment for Maresk Globally



The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Port Authority, MAWANI, has announced the opening of the largest logistics park for Maersk, an integrated logistics company, in the Middle East at Jeddah Islamic Port on August 21, 2024. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Ports Authority. Other prominent attendees included President of MAWANI, Omar Hariri, Vincent Clerc the CEO of A.P. Moller-MAERSK, as well as other senior officials. This event marked a key step in the Kingdom’s path toward developing its maritime economy and positioning itself as a global logistics hub. 


The logistics park strategically located on the Red Sea at Jeddah Islamic Port is built on advanced infrastructure that is set to fully support the new development. Its innovative automated equipment enhances efficiency and fluidity while remaining environmentally friendly and supporting the competitiveness of the port on a global scale.


The Maersk Logistics Zone is one of eight zones being launched at Jeddah Islamic Port through private sector investments. The park is fully equipped with a variety of solutions under one roof, including but not limited to: multimodal connectivity between ocean, land, and air transport. Notably, the development will draw up to 70% of its electricity from renewable sources through solar panels, aligning with the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainability. This initiative is part of MAWANI’s and the transport and logistics system's strategy to develop logistics zones in Saudi ports through partnerships with the private sector and major national and international specialized companies. This effort is part of the Kingdom’s plans to boost operational capabilities at its ports and solidify its leading role on the global maritime map. 


The Maersk Logistics Park is a 225,000 sq. m. facility and the largest single-site logistics and services facility in the Middle East. It is expected to significantly impact the growth of the Kingdom’s logistics and maritime industries. Saudi Arabia is committed to continuing the development of its logistics sector to enhance the global competitiveness of its ports. The park is fully equipped with renewable energy sources and multimodal connectivity between ocean, air and land transport.  


At the event, H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser  stated: 

"The Saudi ports sector is witnessing major and unprecedented advancements in terms of operational performance efficiency, achieving records in international indicators, growing maritime navigation lines, and increasing maritime connectivity with countries around the world. The Maersk Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port will contribute to economic development by providing highly efficient logistics services to support trade movement, export to foreign markets, and enhance the efficiency of supply chains and logistics." 


The inauguration of the Maersk Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port marks a key milestone in Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to develop its logistics and maritime industries. The opening of the Maersk Logistical Park enhances the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub but also underscores its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. By integrating advanced infrastructure with environmentally friendly solutions and fostering partnerships with leading international companies, Saudi Arabia is working to solidify its role on the global maritime map.
