Saudi Arabia Announces Funding for World Maritime University

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced its support and funding for the World Maritime University at Malmö Sweden, June 21st, 2023. On the margins of the World Maritime University (WMU) conference, ‘Maritime and Ocean Sustainability’ to commemorate 40 years of the institution Saudi Arabia announced its contribution to expand capacity-building.


His Excellency Dr Rumaih Al Rumaih met with the outgoing President Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry and incoming President Max Mejia for this announcement. They discussed the important collaboration between Saudi Arabia and the WMU and building on this strong relationship.


The visiting Saudi Delegation to the WMU also included alumni and leaders in the maritime industry from the Kingdom.


The funding the Kingdom has provided is meant to advance capacity-building opportunities for students with the aim of expanding capabilities in specialized maritime programs. The training will as a result, advance their knowledge and expertise.


The support will feature a field study for master's students to visit The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of their course work and experience, as well as an additional field studies for students in the "Maritime Master" specialization. Funding will also feature events that will equip students with professional development courses (PDCs), workshops and seminars. Resources are also allocated to hold national and regional workshops on short model courses.


This announcement reflects the Kingdom's efforts to support maritime initiatives through the World Maritime University and ensuring that the future leaders of the industry are well equipped to face future challenges.
