The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Celebrates International Day of The Seafarer at IMO HQ



The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrated International Day of the Seafarer at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London on June 25. The annual holiday is dedicated to the millions of key workers who work in the industry who support the global supply and logistics. The theme for 2024 is, based around safety at sea, encouraging seafarers to share their safety tips with others around the world.


Saudi Arabia was represented by a delegation from the Transport General Authority (TGA) for the IMO celebrations. The Kingdom appreciates and celebrates the valuable contributions of seafarers upholding a secure transport and logistic services while maintaining a sustainable maritime environment. To commemorate the international day, Lloyd’s Register held a screening of the film, ‘I Love You. Over’ a powerful love story of a Filipino seafarer and his wife which showcasing the difficulties faced by seafarers who must be away from home for long periods at a time. Without seafarers the global economy would collapse, and the video shed light on the sacrifices they make and the importance of their role.


Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stated that in regard to seafarers, “no one knows your work better than you, your experience is absolutely vital for the future of shipping and a safe sector.” Seafarers across the world participated in the IMO social media campaign sharing their tips and experiences of safety at sea.


The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commends and honours the crucial contributions of seafarers, and those who work towards maintain a safe and sustainable maritime environment. Saudi Arabia remains dedicated to supporting seafarers.
