The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Showcases its Achievements and Initiatives in the Maritime Sector.



In the presence of His Royal Highness, Prince Khalid Bin Al-Saud, Ambassador Extraordinary to the United Kingdom of Northern Ireland and Great Britain, and His Excellency Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics and President of the Transport General Authority (TGA), The Transport General Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia showcased some of the achievements and initiatives the country has made in the maritime sector, 13/07/2023.


The event showcased over 10 leading entities from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including

· Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture

· Royal Navy

· Border Guard

· Transport General Authority (TGA)

· MAWANI Saudi Port Authority

· Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority

· Saudi Red Sea Authority

· Bahri

· NEOM

· National Maritime Academy


The event was attended by several ambassadors and delegates from the International Maritime Organization as well as industries experts.


The keynote addresses were made by, His Royal Highness, Prince Khalid Bin Al-Saud, Ambassador Extraordinary to the United Kingdom of Northern Ireland and Great Britain and His Excellency Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics and President of the Transport General Authority (TGA),


The event highlighted many of the key strides the Kingdom has made in the maritime sector such as recently jumping 17 places in the Logistics Performance Index which is indicative of improvements made in the logistics sector. The Kingdom is now also ranked 16th in Networked Readiness Index for Maritime Connectivity.


Saudi Arabia has become the first country in the Middle East to receive the 21st-century Maritime Quality Certification and is ranked 20th in terms of its maritime fleet size and its regional ranking.


The country has also developed its international contributions, signing 3 initiatives to support the marine environment as well as supporting the IMOCARES project. An initiative that seeks to enable coordinated action to reduce emissions from shipping. They also supported developments in training for seafarers by supporting new training programmes with the World Maritime University in Sweden.


These achievements demonstrate the countries commitment to the maritime sector and its focus on cooperation within the International Maritime Organization.
